Street Fighter 6 is one hell of a fighting game, but its DLC price tags have been a bit of a sticking point for some players. Capcom has been pricing its post-launch content fairly high — its Year 1 Ultimate Pass is £50, for example — but its Evo 2023-announced Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles collaboration is the thing that's making headlines.
To be clear, this TMNT DLC consists of outfits for your World Tour and multiplayer lobby avatar — the iconic mutants are not actually playable. But if you want all of these costumes, alongside a bunch of extras like taunts, and in-game wallpapers, you'd need to, er, shell out around $100 / £80 to purchase everything straight up. That's what you'd be paying for two bundles of 2,750 Fighter Coins — Street Fighter 6's premium currency.
It just seems extortionate, doesn't it? The whole thing really hits home when you realise individual TMNT costumes — that is, Leonardo, Donatello, Raphael, or Michelangelo — cost roughly $15 / £12 each. That kind of pricing isn't unheard of in an industry that's currently dominated by live service models at the highest levels of profit, but it's a shame that such a great game is being packed with such purchases (especially when it's a full price release to begin with).
What do you make of this? Is Capcom seriously overpricing things, or is this just the norm now? Sadly hum the TMNT theme tune in the comments section below.

Absolutely disgusting. I did still buy Donnie but ridiculous over £40 for all 4 turtles. They need to fix this and adjust the price and partial refund those who already bought.
The prices are really pretty ridiculous, I couldn't have imagine the costumes being more than $5 a pop, but I can't be too mad about it. They're all cosmetics and avatar stuff for Battle Hub and World Tour, it's all very inessential.
People need to vote with their wallets. It's a fun collab and I'd like to see more, just priced in a more consumer friendly way.
I'd much rather buy four pet turtles and tons of pizza with that amount of money.
I remember a time when even charging for skins and outfits was controversial. £80 is absolute madness
A good way to frame just how expensive it is is Rashid costs literally half the price of one turtle constume. So you could buy a new playable character for half the price of an avatar costume...
@Angelus3K If the pricing is "absolutely disgusting" why did you buy Donnie? You just validated their price point to them. You said this digital thing is worth $15 to me. That money speaks much louder than any comment anywhere online.
Blimey that is crazy😖😖😖😖
That's a lot to shell out 😏
This has got to be a Nickelodeon or Paramount thing. I can't imagine Capcom would price it like this.
So stupid!
And yet, people will pay and the practice will continue.
Thankfully I don't have the FOMO gene or the "pay for a cosmetic in a video game" mentality.
I may not be able to keep up with the "kids" in multi-player video games (so I don't play them), but I'm certainly not blowing money on "fake" property.
I was on the fence about buying SF 6 considering the mess that SF 5 was, but Capcom pushed me in the right direction.
Bye, SF 6!
When you consider the base game is cheaper than that it makes you realise how ridiculous pricing is. A whole game cheaper than a few digital outfits and few minor digital bells and whistles.
@Pat_trick Just because some cosmetic costumes are ridiculously overpriced, doesn't mean that the game is bad. In fact, the game is amazing and there's a lot of content in there that you get for just purchasing the game.
That's Koei Tecmo levels of overpricing! Crazy
This microtransactions crap is one of the few major blemishes on modern Capcom. It's such a shame because they've been on such a major comeback for so long now that it genuinely sucks to see them behaving like some of their much worse peers.
The game is solid, but, my god everyone, vote that these practices are wrong and hurtful with your wallet! If you continue to purchase, you’re continuing the problem!
FYI for those that haven't seen it - the movie is really good. I've never been a turtles fan and I really enjoyed it.
I am disappointed these are so expensive. I was planning on shelling out for one - I assumed $5-8. Now I won't.
Disgusting move by Capcom especially with all the battle passes, MTX and season pass stuff the game already has.
Wish these skins were coming to Fortnite. Instead we get another anime collab 🙄
Those prices are ridiculous though. The whole package would probably cost around £25 on Fortnite, which is still high but not as bad as this.
@Kanji-Tatsumi we’ve come a long way from the $4.99 “horse armor” controversy.
It's definitely overpriced. I'd pay like $2-3 for costumes like this. I love TMNT as much as the next guy but there's no way I'm paying $15.
That said I can't be too mad. I have over 200 hours in SF6 just a little over two months since launch. The game is just an absolute blast to play!
Yeah, I logged on just to have a look what was there and how much it cost. When I realised it was over £10 a costume… I just went back to verbally abusing the guy behind the tournament desk. Sort it out Capcom. Great game otherwise.
@JakeThijs It really is. Their greed makes me turn green 🤢
My colleague actually bought a real turtle for £70 last week.
I consider this to be karmic payback for all the “gamers” who ridicule people who play free-to-start games b/c free-to-play games aren’t “real games”. You think FTP is bad, we’ll here’s your $60-to-stsrt game with an extra $150 available to purchase. Happy now?😂
Let me start by saying I believe everyone in the industry should be fairly paid. That said, I find these profit machines very distasteful. Either put out a free or low priced game that relies on in-game purchases to make its money back OR charge me full price for a game then drop some free dlc or low priced extras. I make an exception for large dlc packages (Witcher 3, Horizon, etc) that greatly extend the original experience. But it feels like games like this or sport games that charge £70+ for base game then expect constant revenue from “card packs” or player purchases want a dual income.
Cowabunga, dudes! 🤣
The gaming industry is really in the bin lately
I wouldn't even pay a Splinter of that price.
@RudeAnimat0r Totally agree. I know I’m part of the problem but I want my Donnie!!
@Cashews ayy that's good to hear, I saw the ratings for it and figured I'll give it a watch
@Angelus3K lol fair enough!
@Cherip-the-Ripper the art style/work was the best I've seen on a western cartoon in a very long time. The jokes were pretty decent. The story was actually kind of surprising (like who was bad and who was good). Voice work was about as good as VA gets. Props to Ice Cube and Jackie Chan.
I don't have any bad things to say about it. It was much better than Mario Bros and I enjoyed Mario. I didn't see Mike Morales so I cannot compare it. From the previews I expected to enjoy TMNT but ended up liking it a lot more than I expected I would. Whole family of 4 enjoyed it.
@EvenStephen7 Horse armor was $2.50 I believe. All of the people on the forums saying "IT'S ONLY $2.50 IF YOU DONT LIKE IT DONT BUY IT" ruined all of gaming. It is their fault.
When Bethesda and Valve hatched a plan to charge for modders work (70-30 split to Bethesda/Valve) people got so mad they backed off. It works if the ire level is high enough.
Man that's insane pricing for purely cosmetic items.
@MasterVGuides I understand that. But most publishers only react when you stop buying their product. I know the developers did their best to make an amazing game, but I can't support this predatory model established by Capcom.
Look everyone. To paraphrase take two, i'm sure Capcom looked at the market environment and deemed this price 'commercially accurate' 🤔
Also Japanese developed games have a history of overpriced dlc. Just look at the abundance Atlus pump into the Persona series as an example. Vote with your wallets and steer clear!
Gamers do it themselves. There will be quite a few schmucks with more money than brains that will buy this and give Capcom validation on continuing the outlandish pricing strategy.
Terrible but not shocking.. I'll buy expansions that have work put into them or skins if they're reasonably priced but unfortunately a lot of my favorite games that I would consider getting the DLC for have asinine prices. SF 6 is my favorite game of the year so far, but I'm not buying this overpriced nonsense.
The price should be waaaay more for this kind of special content. I will not purchase this because I would feel like I'm robbing Capcom
What a rip-off. Pure and simple. This really sucks.
Might as well buy a different game with that money.
$100 for costumes and not actual playable characters? EA and Activision would be proud.
F*** off !!! Seriously
Don't buy it if you don't like it. I see all kinds of TMNT's running around the Battle Hub though, so some people must be okay with it. Sucks cause the wrong message is being sent. It doesn't bother me though cause it's all cosmetic and easily avoidable.
You'd have to be 'turtley' crazy to pay that!
@AndyKazama I was going to say the same thing! The DOA series is notorious for its cosmetic, digital rip offs but this may even beat them at their own game. 🤣
Honestly yeah this is very overpriced, but Fortnite and other live services have been doing this for now almost half a decade. And I honestly do get it. It's an expensive licence that is here for a limited time and Capcom need revenue in order to keep the game alive. I bought the Year 1 Ultimate pass not just to get all of the new major characters and content, but to also be there and support the game long term. I think we just gotta learn that if we don't like it, just ignore it and have fun as always or buy it if you do really want it. We can't have our cake and eat it too
CAPCOM tripping balls tf
@Cashews Wow, I stand corrected. That's wild; the industry has gotten to microtransaction-crazy that $2.99 for a cosmetic doesn't sound absurd at all anymore.
@Gaia093 the issue with that is the four turtles are going to eat all the pizza before you can even see a slice. So you’re essentially only getting 4 turtles with bloated bellies
They're the world's most fearsome corporate team
(Greedy Mutant Gaming Executives)
They charge $15 for costumes and they see green
(Greedy Mutant Gaming Executives)
Waiting for the right time to attack
These greedy execs won't cut you no slack!
People will buy it because they’re happy to complain about it but won’t actually just ya know not buy it. The thing that impresses me is I saw Donatello the other day I guess promoting the new movie? And he went “I’m gonna go 15$ Mode.” And then he was priced at 15$ and I was honestly impressed
@EvenStephen7 people used to debate all of the time about paying $10 for 4 CoD maps. It seems trite now.
Battlefield Bad Company 2 had the first large scale dlc I know of - it was $15 which people thought was soooo high. It had huge maps, new assets and licensed music to go with the 1970s theme. To this day it's the best dlc I ever paid for.
It would cost 30-40 today. Or they'd simply make it a new game.
U don't have to buy it smh
…the Capcom crown is slipping from their heads
This makes the Horse Armor dlc look like a charity.
Seems like call of duty pricing, shame what games ask for, just for a skin.
@Korgon Have they fixed the tournaments yet? Only trophies Im missing for the plat.
These prices are only going to stop if people stop buying. Simple as that.
Hmm this seems very ninja / dead or alive type additions, but at least those you get extra charectors as well as a lot of costumes. They are really expensive, but this is taking the biscuit.
One issue I have with the game is that there are so many currencies it's very confusing. Maybe I'm simple but why are there so many?
Strauss Zelnick reckons its the "going rate" for a bit dlc 🤣
I have already finished te story mode and moved on to other games. Never get why people continue with fighting games once they have played through them, what are they expecting to change other than skins? You have seen all it has to offer, stop pouring money down the drain and move on to other games.
@all3forever
Still no word on that yet sadly. Hopefully soon!
@Fishnpeas
There's plenty of reasons to keep playing a fighting game after finishing whatever is offered in the single player modes. There's trying to learn how to play as all the different characters, testing your skill against others online, learning new techniques from other players as well as how to improve from your own defeats...the list goes on.
If your not interested in any of that then that's fine but if someone is enjoying themselves by continuing to play that's not really a waste of money is it?
and so it begins, anyone who brought this on day 1 you should be ashamed of yourselves buying this at retail price and getting milked to the bone for you actions, no one should be supporting this, modern day fighting games are a disgrace 😤
@Pat_trick don't look back man! smh
@huyi Preordered and played through the story and was very satisfied. And I have no intention of getting the TMNT content.
So less of the judging what people should do with "their" money.
Not playable?!?!? What the heck? That’s absurd. I’ve always admired Capcom for not having predatory pricing for DLC or loot boxes.
The Resident Evil games are almost completely devoid of this chicanery.
Disappointing, Capcom.
I'm just so sorry I bought the god-damned horse armour and helped start this train running at this point.
@Fishnpeas I finished a game of football in FIFA once, and I don't get why anyone else would keep playing it after that. Doesn't make any sense! People are so weird.
@Fishnpeas @Shinishii I played one round of Tennis in real life. Why would I play a second? I've seen all there is to see.
@RudeAnimat0r "They're all cosmetics and avatar stuff for Battle Hub and World Tour, it's all very inessential."
Main reason companies get away stuff like this is exactly because they know people will just think this way.
This is absolutley horrible. They saw what blizzard was doing and figured they'd do the same. Cosmetics or not it doesn't matter. No skin is worth as much as a game.
@RedRiot193 They "get away with it" because there are people that will pay those prices. I certainly won't, but I also won't make too much of a fuss about it because it has no real impact on my ability to enjoy the game. Now if new characters were $15 a pop, then I'd take real issue.
@RudeAnimat0r And yet reacting that way is still empowering them to do so. Companies have people specifically for this type of stuff. And they know that people would react that way which is exactly why even if it doesn't sell it'll continue to be done.
Yes your ability to enjoy the game. I'm a huge cosmetics guy. And I've always been one. Cosmetics do affect the experience of a person actually.
@RedRiot193 I'm sorry it affects your experience, but there are only two binary reactions to this: either you buy it or you don't. I'm not empowering anyone by not buying it. If I don't buy it AND grouse on the internet about it it is still effectively the same thing: no sale.
I'm just not following how I am somehow part of the reason cosmetics are expensive I'll be totally honest, I've never bought a cosmetic in a game in my life.
@RudeAnimat0r You're entirely missing my point. The uproar towards p2w happens and it's usually a big deal. Which is why companies hardly ever attempt such a thing. But regardless if you buy them or not. The chill nature of how some gamers like yourself view cosmetics as a non issue is precisely why they do it. They know even if you decide not to buy them there won't be as much of a push back especially when there's comments like yours. Like I said before companies have people that track behavior on microtransactions and cosmetics are prime for this reason.
You're the head of pricing at Capcom. One of your data analysts says, "boss, we've modelled five different price points for the DLC costumes, from $1 to $30 per costume. The one that makes the most profit is option 3. There might be some negative comments on user forums, but overwhelmingly, coverage of the game is hype and we're selling strongly."
You check your contract. If you meet or exceed your group revenue target you get a huge bonus. So does your boss, who will sign off your recommendation. Which one do you choose?
Come on guys Like Apple, Google and every other capital enterprise, they're here to make money for the shareholders. Decide if it's worth that much to you & buy or don't buy. Capcom banks that enough people will say yes & they know the market way better than we do! The game is flying off the shelves.
